2022-23 LSAT Registration Updates
Those of us subscribed to the LSAC mailing lists got this email recently, listing several changes to the LSAT scheduling, including prices, fee waivers, and new programs!
“We are writing to provide several updates on the 2022-2023 LSAT testing cycle.
Registration is now open for all 2022-2023 LSAT Administrations
As of 7:30 a.m. ET today, May 12, registration is open for all 2022-2023 LSAT administrations, starting with the August 2022 LSAT through the June 2023 LSAT. We will have four administrations in the summer/fall period, and four test administrations in winter/spring. We have aligned the test administrations so that score release dates fall before the registration deadline for the second subsequent test. This was done to ensure that test takers who may wish to re-test will be able to see their results before deciding to register for a future test.
Pricing for 2022-2023 cycle
We have held the cost of the LSAT constant since 2019. To address the rising costs associated with administering the test, the fee for the LSAT will be $215 for the 2022-2023 cycle. The test date change fee will move from $125 to $135, and the score audit fee will move from $125 to $150. All other fees remain the same.
We have worked hard to hold costs down over the past several years. While online testing reduces costs in some ways, it increases our costs in many other ways, in particular the cost of remote proctoring and the requirement that we use multiple test forms for each LSAT administration in order to maintain the security and integrity of the test. We will continue to take every step possible to hold down costs for test takers.
LSAC’s expanded fee waiver program
LSAC has expanded its fee waiver program to make more people eligible and added a new tier for individuals who don’t qualify for the full fee waiver but still need some assistance. We are pleased to report that these changes have enabled more candidates to qualify for our fee waivers.
Under the expanded program, independent individuals earning less than 250% of the federal poverty guidelines may be eligible for the Tier 1 fee waiver, which provides the following services for free: two LSAT tests, Credential Assembly Service, six law school reports, a one-year LawHub LSAT PrepPlus subscription, and one Score Preview. Independent individuals earning more than 250% but less than 300% of the federal poverty guidelines may be eligible for the Tier 2 fee waiver, which provides one LSAT test, Credential Assembly Service, four law school reports, a one-year LawHub LSAT PrepPlus subscription, and one Score Preview. Detailed eligibility information is available on our website.
As the result of these changes, 8,471 individuals qualified for Tier 1 fee waivers in the most recent fee waiver cycle, an increase of 52% over the previous cycle. In addition, 1,135 individuals qualified for Tier 2 fee waivers. All told, 9,606 individuals qualified for one of the LSAC fee waiver tiers this year.
We encourage you to review the eligibility guidelines and apply if you believe you meet the requirements.
Two new free programs for prospective students
LSAC is offering two online programs to help students make sense of the law school admission process and the world of law school itself – (1) Law School Unmasked™, a program designed for students planning to enroll in law school this fall, which will run from June 7 through June 23, and (2) Admission Unmasked™, a program designed for anyone planning to apply to law school in the upcoming cycle or later, which will run June 20 through July 29.
Both programs are free to LawHub members, and students can register for either program within their LawHub account. “
